I Am Hope
Founded in 2013 by Nadiya Khan, I Am Hope began as a grassroots effort to support underfunded primary schools in South Africa’s Kouga district. What started with a Facebook campaign quickly grew into a hands-on feeding program, clothing and food drives, and volunteer-led initiatives for St. Patrick’s Primary School and surrounding rural schools. Working alongside her sister, her mother, and local volunteers, Nadiya helped launch daily lunch programs, community drop-off points, and a cafeteria-style serving system to ensure children received reliable and dignified meals.
Beyond nutrition, I Am Hope focused on restoring dignity through education, access, and human connection. The charity introduced mentorship and after-school support systems, raised awareness around parent-teacher communication, and sought to bring arts and creativity through drama, music, and gardening – back into schools where resources were scarce. Built on the belief that hope is more powerful than charity, the mission remains simple: feed bodies, uplift spirits, and remind children in forgotten communities that they are seen and worth investing in.
